PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE DIVISIONS

 

The City of Boulder City Public Works Maintenance consists of four divisions: Building Maintenance, Landscape, Streets/Garage and Water/Sewer, with a total of 29 employees. The four divisions are directly under the management of Gary Poindexter, Public Works Superintendent.   All Divisions within Public Works are represented on the City’s Change Team and play a key role in the successful implementation of new procedures. 

 

Building Maintenance Mission Statement

 

The Mission of the Building Maintenance Division is to provide ongoing quality maintenance of City facilities by integrating preventative maintenance with active response.

 

The Building Maintenance Division is responsible for all City-owned buildings.  We perform skilled work in the repair, construction and maintenance of these facilities.  It is our goal to create a program to inspect City buildings on an annual basis. These inspections will allow timely, routine documentation of maintenance needs, and this will facilitate planning and the budget process.

 

Landscape Division Mission Statement

 

The Landscape Division is dedicated to providing attractive, safe, high-quality parks for the use and enjoyment of Boulder City’s residents and visitors.  We maintain numerous landscaped areas ranging from flood control facilities to boulevards and medians.

 

Maintenance work is distributed by the Landscape Supervisor and performed by

three Senior Landscape Maintenance Workers, four Landscape Maintenance Workers, and one Irrigation Technician.  The Landscape Division maintains one hundred and sixty-six (166) acres of municipal grounds, ten sport fields, seven neighborhood parks, the municipal cemetery, area surrounding nine miles of roadways, and various municipal lawns and landscaped areas.  Duties include tree removal tree and shrub pruning within City parks and City lawns.

 

Contractors provide maintenance with large-scale tree care, but due to budget cuts, City staff has assumed maintenance of all medians and new parks in Boulder City.

 
Nevada State Division of Forestry inmate labor crews assist with less technical maintenance activities needed throughout many of the City Parks.

 

Street Division Mission Statement

 

The Streets Division provides a safe and high-quality street and sidewalk system for motorists and pedestrians.  The Division includes a sweeping program and traffic control sign maintenance, in addition to its flood channel maintenance and storm cleanup, welding, Cemetery interments and assistance to other Divisions. The Fleet Maintenance section services and repairs the vehicles and equipment for the Public Works Department. It utilizes both in house and outside services to perform modification, preventative maintenance, and safety and emission certifications.

 

The Streets Division currently maintains eighty miles of asphalt, more than six million (6,000,000+) square feet of concrete, more than fourteen (14+) miles of lined channels, about one mile of unlined channels, nine (9) miles of dirt road, five hundred sixty-one (561) acres of detention basins, two hundred seventy-six (276) drop inlets, one hundred thirty (130) crosswalks, twenty-two (22) areas with striping, signs throughout town, red curb zones, and  special projects. 

 

The Streets Division consists of eight employees: a Supervisor, a Garage Mechanic, a Sign and Delineation Technician, an Equipment Operator who operates the street sweeper, a Maintenance Worker, and three working Maintenance Coordinators.

 

Water and Sewer Division Mission Statement

 

This division provides drinking-quality water and raw water at equitable rates. It makes sure that the public receives high-quality service within established ordinances and regulations. These services must comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

 

The Wastewater Division provides constant wastewater services without stoppages or other losses of service.  Treatment and disposal occurs through environmentally safe operations within the guidelines of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

 

Our sevenfold mission must include:

 

1.  To provide safe drinking water to the customers of Boulder City, and to provide Raw Water to our landscape customers;

2.  To provide uninterrupted, safe water service with acceptable flow, pressure and quality;

3.  To meet emergency water demands and flows;

4.  To provide fair and prompt utility service with the customer in mind;

5.  To plan for the future expansion of the water system as necessary in order to meet water quality standards;

6.  To maintain all plumbing to all City facilities; and

7.  To respond and repair leaks and clogs twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
